Farmers First - What We Believe
The name "Farmers First" says it all. We care about people. We want to see farmers succeed, their families healthy, and their communities thriving. By purchasing Farmers First coffees and visiting this site, we know you care as well. Thank you for supporting our efforts!
In order to truly make a difference, Farmers First supports an open market wherein both farmers and buyers are educated; complete transparency in the process exists; and farmers receive direct rewards for producing high-quality crops.
Unlike some large corporations that exploit workers under the banner of "free trade," Farmers First allows the farmer to benefit as much as the consumer-through a democratic voice and the power of capitalism. Farmers First knows that a truly open market empowers the farmer.
In addition to supporting an open market, Farmers First adheres to the following tenets:
- A Truly Fair Price. For prices to be fair, and to successfully pay farmers for their quality products, there needs to be a better balance of purchasers willing to pay a premium price for a premium crop. Farmers First will work toward improving this balance.
- The Highest Quality. By enabling our farmers to directly receive a premium price for their enormous commitment, the incentive exists to continue producing premium crops. The farmer gains security and the consumer gains exceptional coffees.
- Radical Transparency. Farmers First will create a mechanism that allows consumers to know exactly where their monies go and the assurance that they are receiving the best beans or tea leaves on the planet. Plus, consumers can verify that farmers directly receive the best prices for their best efforts.
- Social Responsibility...Locally. By investing in the farmers through directly paying them a premium price, these farmers in turn will create more jobs, have more time to concentrate on bettering their societies, and work toward long-term solutions to cover the broad needs of their communities. It's a win-win situation for everyone.
- Official Declarations. Farmers First is a completely voluntary organization. Consumers will know farmers receive the best benefit because farmers will voluntarily sign and make public declarations of their fair and satisfied relationships with businesses. All of this will, in turn, be verified by a reliable, independent auditing firm.
- Recognition. Besides marketing exceptional farmers to the discerning public, Farmers First plans to recognize companies with more than 50% of their purchases under conditions of higher pricing and commercial transparency. Winning companies receive the Farmers First Award at an annual event, plus publication of their accomplishments.
- Beneficial Support. Farmers First cares about farmers. To help them succeed, farmers will receive economic assistance from the businesses involved in the project. Materials such as the Farmers First Handbook will help farmers successfully become Farmers First growers. And organizations such as: The Farmers First Foundation; The Public Relations Office (USA); and a reliable and credible Auditing Firm will further aid the farmers and consumers in receiving the best benefit.
